This March, we at DISEP have celebrated the 34th anniversary of Women’s History Month, and we take great pride in the achievements and advancements women have made to history, culture, business, government and society in the United States.
What is the significance of Women’s Month
The event commemorates a crucial moment in New York City's history, when thousands of women marched through the streets to demand fair wages and the voting rights. The Socialist Party of America, fueled by this overwhelming support, organized the first National Women's Day a year later. This idea sparked a global discussion, eventually reaching Clara Zetkin, a German socialist who collaborated with women from 17 countries to establish International Women's Day on March 8, 1911.
Theme of Women’s History Month 2021
The theme for this year 2021, is the same as for 2020: "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced." Although the year 2020 was not without its obstacles, it also marked the centennial of women's voting rights and highlighted the importance of intersectional dialogue in the women's rights movement. Every year's celebration is a tribute to the past while still pointing to new possibilities for women's progress and equality.
How is the Women’s History Month celebration, a portrayal of diversity and Inclusiveness?
This year's Women's History Month provided us with five weeks of opportunities to learn, be motivated, and take action to help one another. It gave us a chance to elevate, fight for, and strengthen the voices of marginalized citizens. Policymakers sought to make meaningful improvements for all women in key areas such as race, gender, and sexual orientation. These speakers discussed policy and practice alternatives for increasing wealth.
Throughout the month, there will be an emphasis on issues faced by Indigenous people, such as women's suffrage, voting and land rights, violence against minority communities, and indigenous women's complex cultural roles and values. The month is meant to find ways to eradicate these problems for all women, from everywhere.
Various brands are working together to celebrate women’s month. This is being done by preparing plans with diversity and inclusion that primarily focusses on acknowledging the individual differences. Allyship and Advocacy Training Specific to Supporting Women have been started to increase diversity and inclusiveness in the society so that women feel empowered.
